A fading signal takes on a pulse

These paired albums bring together a further stretch of Pye Corner Audio's Black Mill Tapes series. Volume 3 had circulated earlier, while Volume 4 completed the sequence as a newly heard companion.

Across the two records, the project moves from the more wandering ambience of its earlier chapters toward arrangements shaped by drums, bass weight and clipped electronic motion. The sound remains weathered and distant, as if recovered from a broadcast with much of its signal worn away.

“Electronic Rhythm Number Five” places a firm square-wave bass figure beneath dry, disco-leaning percussion. “Inside the Wave” shifts into a darker synth register, while “Dystopian Vector Part One” leaves more space around its low, cinematic tones.

Together, these pieces capture a transitional moment in the project: concise electronic studies with an instinct for atmosphere, rhythm and the evocative residue of old equipment.
