Listening notes

A synthetic route through source material

Scott Goodwin's selection moves between modular electronics, improvised sound, experimental composition and rhythm-led work. Rather than settling into one scene or method, the sequence follows connections in timbre, density and atmosphere.

The mix was assembled alongside ideas for new work, drawing together artists whose approaches stretch the edges of dance music and those working from more exploratory or multidisciplinary traditions. The result is direct, unsettled and carefully paced.

What to listen for

Slow changes in tone are the central thread. Composed sound sits beside acidic electronics, raw edits and fragments from collective resources, making space for contrast without forcing a single interpretation.

How this typecast is built

These notes preserve the shape of the original session while giving each selection a clear place in the listening path.

Composed sound

Works by Maryanne Amacher and James Tenney bring close attention to resonance, duration and the physical character of sound.

Unsettled rhythm

Edits and rhythm-led selections keep the session moving without flattening its more abstract edges.

resource fragments

Collective recordings and informal documents introduce a rougher, less fixed sense of source and place.

Patient listening

The sequence rewards an uninterrupted listen, allowing sharp contrasts to become part of its shared atmosphere.
